Lobsters, as well as many other animals, have it tough. They are raised for consumption, and perhaps their treatment is extremely inhumane. In the case of the Lobster, they are boiled alive by us to be eaten, and during it they suffer. They do feel pain in my opinion, and David Foster Wallace supports this. Foster took a very different approach towards writing research papers, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. He included facts in the beginning, but then started to show how it was considered inhumane. He used the real-life experiences that are very well documented to support him. He structured the essay in many separate columns, with each segment adding on to the last. A segment, such as when he discussed the Maine Lobster Tent being able to cook 100 live lobsters simultaneously, would branch instantly into his moral questions, such as whether this was over-consumption or unethical. It brought an interesting perspective towards these PETA issues. While mostly considered extreme in my opinion, he did bring up several points that I was able to sympathize with and would feel regret towards the killings of the lobsters. The essay was very fun and I learned much on how to structure my essay, which is very much so an emotional research paper, and not a scientific one.
